Bathroom Designs, The Environmentally Friendly Way

Follow my blog with Bloglovin Bathroom designs can be tailored to meet your environmental needs. In any eco-friendly home, a good bathroom design presents opportunities for stacks of eco-friendly benefits. If you find yourself re-modelling your bathroom, take into consideration water flow, heating energy and consumables such as paper & toiletries. Typically, one of the most inefficient rooms in the house (along with the kitchen) a poorly designed bathroom is both thirsty and a strain on your energy bills.     Here are 5 things to consider to help you make your bathroom energy and water efficient:   Typical toilets use at least 3.5 gallons of water per flush – older toilets may even use up to 6 gallons. Replacing your toilet with a high-efficiency one can save a family of four $90.00 a year.   Bathroom designs often consist of new fixtures. Think of installing a low-flow showerhead to cut down on excess water use. The typical showerhead will use 5-8 gallons of water per minute while a low-flow head will only use 2.5 gallons or less with the same amount of water pressure. Not only will these save you water but energy to heat your water.   Another place where water is wasted is in the sink. Including a motion-censored faucet in your bathroom design will help keep track of when you actually need the water to flow instead of leaving the faucet on while brushing your teeth or washing your face. This faucet can also help keep your bathroom cleanliness because it prevents the spreading of germs.   If you depend on a vent fan to keep moisture at bay, a great way to save some energy is to replace a standard fan with an energy star-rated fan that will save you 60% energy over your older model.   Consider tiling your bathroom in ceramics. These tiles are not easily damaged by moisture and can be made in a low-impact manufacturing process. A bathroom designer can help you choose eco-friendly tiles as well as a tile that will go perfectly with your bathroom design.   If you would like to discuss your options for environmentally friendly bathroom designs with one of our bathroom designers please visit our contact us page or email us at info@designswithjessica.com Alternatively, if you would like to discuss any of your interior decorating ideas, we would be glad to help.
